Description:
The Elliots Remington O/U Deringer was made from 1867 to 1935 with approximately 112,000 manufactured. The 2-barrel derringers were fitted with 3 inch barrels, oscillating firing pin, spur trigger, many grip types were available, no extractor on early models and extractors fitted on later models, and were chambered in .41 R.F.. This early Remington Derringer, serial number 599, is stamped "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." on the left side of the barrels and "ELLIOT'S. PATENT DEC 12, 1865" on the right side of the barrels. This particular Remington does not have an extractor, and with the stampings as noted, places manufacture date between 1868 to 1869. It is in very good original condition, though it has lost all of its original finish, having turned a light grey patina. The walnut grips are in very good condition, they fit well, appear to have retained most of their original finish, and have few handling marks. The action works, the barrel release lever locks in place, but the barrel to frame fit is loose. There is visible rifling in the bores, but rough. The serial number stamped under the barrel and behind the right grip panel match. Seldom do we come accross an early Remington Derringer and this one is attractive.
