Description:
SOLD..Antique 1889 Marlin 32-20 caliber 26” octagon barrel with finish. Here is a very nice antique 1889 Marlin. The caliber is 32-20. To start with, the bore is excellent and bright with very strong rifling all the way through. Just shows the ever so slight frosting in the groves but but it rates excellent for a 32-20. NO rings or bulges.. I have had only a hand full of 32-20's that had bright bores. Very hard to find this caliber with excellent bores. They just did not get cleaned after firing with black powder as most cleaning rods in the day were made for the larger calibers. Some old timer must have made his own cleaning rod because this bore has been very well taken care of. The mechanics are all excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. Has the typical lazy ejection as all these 89's have but it kicks the cases out of the receiver. Both hammer notches are perfect also and not chipped or broken as most all of these 89's are. Still solid and positive. Has the special order 26” octagon barrel as 24” was standard. S/N 95735 and made in 1893. Also this gun has a lot of original blue finish remaining. The barrel has at least 65% bright blue and has thinned out on the edges and at the caliber marking from handling. Very nice blue showing on this gun. The receiver has traces of blue in the protected areas. Some on top of the receiver and around the hammer at the rear. Some case colors visible on the lever under the receiver and most all the case colors up inside the lever were protected when closed. Case colors have faded out on the hammer. The balance of the metal is a smooth medium to light brown patina. No pitting on the gun anywhere. Still has the original rear and front sights with the rear being the standard buck horn and the front being special order Lyman “Jack” sight with ivory bead with PAT AUG. ?? 88 stamping. Hard to read what date in August but the 88 is clear with a loop. Also still has the original Marlin folding tang sight. Have not removed it to see the number on the bottom but I can do that if anyone is interested in this. Special sights on this gun also besides the extra length 26” barrel !!!! Some one wanted a shooter for sure when they bought or ordered this gun. The wood is great on this gun. The forearm retains about 40% of it's original varnish. NO splits or cracks and fits tight and proud to the metal. Hardly any dings or scratches also. The butt stock fits tight and full also with no splits or cracks but a small and not very deep sliver out on the bottom end of the lower tang {see photo}.. Very minor and does not detract from this very fine gun. Has the normal dings and scratches from honest use but never abused. Also the butt stock retains about 75% original but slightly thinning varnish. Just great looking wood on this gun with no cleaning, sanding or abuse. The screw heads are also nice and clean and not all burred up from tinkering. This is a very fine, never messed with 89 Marlin with lots of finish, nice shiny bore and great looking wood. Very well taken care of in it's life and has many years left in it. Collector grade gun and a great shooter to boot with special order features with the 26” barrel and special sights. ALL 100% original and untouched ready for your collection. Just well above the average brown ones you see in the lower price range... Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Thank you so much for looking and check back often.
