Description:

NEW ENGLAND Antique UNDERHAMMER Long Rifle

Made Circa the 1840s

Here we present an antique Northeastern Style Underhammer Long Rifle, made circa the 1840s. This genre of percussion firearms was centered in the New England area but contains a vast amount of styles and makers, most of them unknown today. Just like everything, underhammers have their advantages and disadvantages. The primary two positives were that the hammer was out of the line of sight and that the detonation of the percussion cap was contained on the bottom of the firearms, well away from the eyes. This piece features a streamlined appearance with a fully octagonal barrel and dramatically curved butt stock. Butt plate is of brass. This was made without a trigger guard. No visible maker’s mark is present.

The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are dark with age. There are no visible markings. The stock is in good shape. The bore is dark. The action on this rifle is functional.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 36-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .52

Overall condition as seen in photos.
