MEXICAN Remington Rolling Block CAVALRY Carbine
Model 1897 in 7x57mm Mauser
Here we present a Mexican Contract Remington Rolling Block Saddle Ring Carbine. The Model 1897 rifles and carbines were produced by Remington circa 1987-1917. This example is one of many Model 1897s purchased for the Republic of Mexico. It has the desirable “REPUBLICA MEXICANA” and Mexican golden eagle emblem marking on the chamber that indicates purchase by Mexico. It is also marked with three-line Remington address and patent information on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang. The barrel is marked “7MM-SM”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a smooth, dark patina. The markings are legible. The walnut stock has seen significant weathering and remains solid. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is functional.
