Description:

BROWN BESS Style Percussion Conversion MUSKET

Here we present an antique British Colonial Brown Bess Percussion Musket, made circa the mid-19th Century. The Brown Bess was used in the era of the expansion of the British Empire and was in use for over one hundred years with many incremental changes in its design. This piece appears to be an indigenous copy of a Brown Bess, perhaps from Southeast Asia. The lock is marked with a somewhat primitive version of a royal cipher. The bore is smooth and is a massive .76 caliber. The hardware is made of brass.

The overall condition is good. The iron surfaces have a gray-brown patina. The stock shows significant use and a couple stable cracks. The bore is smooth and a bit dusty. The action will hold half-cock but not full. Mainspring remains strong. Here is an interesting copy of a very influential British design!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 39-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .76

Overall condition as seen in photos.
