Description:
Offered here is one full box of Winchester Central Fire Cartridges in 45-60 Caliber and loaded with Black Powder. This is believed to be the second style box issued by Winchester in about 1880 and includes the unheadstamped picture of the cartridge. The cartridges themselves are headstamped, which is typical. Winchester introduced this cartridge in July of 1879 in response to popular demand for a cartridge of lighter power then the current 45-75 but heavier than the cartridges offered for Winchester's Model 1873. The 45-60 uses 15 grains less of powder then the 45-75 and 50 grains less of bullet weight and became a huge success, exceeding Winchester's expectations. The pictures show the condition of the box and ammo much better than I can describe them.
