Winchester 38-72 Black Powder Cartridges loaded with 275 grain lead bullets. The 38-72 was one of the first cartridges introduced by Winchester for their new model 1895 rifle in 1895. This is an early style box and is believed to be the earliest black powder box issued by Winchester for this cartridge. The pictures show the condition of the box and cartridges much better than I can describe them.
