The Tanegashima in Japan dates to the mid-16th Century, when the Portuguese brought this 15th Century European concept to the shores of the Japanese Island of Tanegashima, for which the musket is named. With just a few examples Japanese swordsmiths were able to duplicate and produce their own on a large scale, forever changing how wars would be fought in Japan by the end of the 16th Century. This one has either been converted or built from the ground up to be a breech-loading, single-shot shotgun. This one is equipped with traditional Tanegashima-style sights. The breech lever is under the gun, just in front of the trigger guard. The hammer is internal with a cocking lever on the right side. This is equipped with sling swivels. The only marking is the Imperial Japanese chrysanthemum. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. Markings are clear. The bore is smooth and in fair condition. The stock is in great shape. The action on this musket is functioning. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 32-1/2 inches. Caliber: .55 caliber Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
