REDUCED - Between 1879 and 1884 Winchester had side by side 10 and 12 gauge shotguns manufactured in England and brought to the US where they were serial numbered and sold under the Winchester label. This beautiful little hammer double is the only 20 Gauge one of these that we have ever seen. Top rib is marked WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO - MATCH GUN - NEW HAVEN CONN U.S.A. and the receiver is similiarly marked on each side. Receiver is game scene engraved. There were 5 grades of these guns made, A, B, C, D, and Match with Match being the highest grade - which this one is, and it shows with exceptional English walnut stock & forend, etc. Finish has been added to the wood many years ago and it appears to have been hand rubbed oil. The metal appears to be all original and faded to a nice patina. Barrels are a hair under 26 inches in length. Length of pull (from front trigger) is 13.5 inches including a composite checkered buttplate which appears to be original. An exceptionally rare Winchester shotgun which would be desireable for most advanced collections.
