Francotte Double Barrel Shotgun fitted with 30 inch barrels (choked full & full), Miller Single Trigger, ejectors, checkered round knob pistol grip walnut stock (professional replacement) with horn butt-plate, checkered walnut forearm, color case-hardened receiver, other parts blue finished, and 20 gauge 2 3/4 inch chambered. The left side of the receiver is stamped "THE KNOCK ABOUT GUN", the right side of the receiver is stamped "VON LENGERKE & DELMOLD NEW YORK", and the bottom of the receiver is stamped "MADE IN BELGIUM". It is all numbers matching. The gun is in excellent condition retaining 98% of its blue finish on the barrel and about 95% on the trigger guard. The receiver retains 80% of its color case-hardened finish, with most thinning around the bottom, due to handling. The bores are bright and the tight fitting action functions perfecly.
According to the letter from Griffin and Howe this shotgun was sold by Abercombie and Fitch in 1934 to Herbert Pulitzer, the son of Joseph Pulitzer for whom the Pulitzer Prize was named. The Francotte Company made some of the highest quality shotguns in the world and are highly prized. This box-lock has 30 inch barrels, 2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors and has been fitted with a Miller single trigger. It has had a good restoration done in the past . The stock has been replaced and the newer stock is fitted very well and looks close to original. The barrels have been professionally rust blued and are in excellent condition, both inside and out. The receiver retains over 60% of its original case colors. The 30 inch barrels are choked full & full (.0020"/.0020') and the stock dimensions are: 14 5/8 inch length of pull, 2 3/8 inch drop at heel, 1 1/2 inch drop at comb, and the weight is 5 lbs. 15 oz. Vintage 20 gauge shotguns with 30 inch barrels are hard to find, and this Francotte is perfectly balanced and handles extremely well.
