Description:

RARE Marlin 39 Deluxe .22 Takedown Rifle.  It isn’t’ often we see one of these Deluxe Model 39’s and this one is VERY SPECIAL!!  The importance of serial #1033 you ask?
Lt. Col. Brophy’s book Marlin Firearms states,           pg 275, that Serialization was recorded or reported to start, no prefix, at 1002.  Colt similarly started serialization of the 2nd Generation SAA at 1002. This being rifle 1033 would, in all likelihood, be the 32nd Marlin 39 manufacture!  That is consistent with the latch magazine tube and the first type butt plate that was is curved and has the word Marlin in an oval. This butt plate has the lump on top of it and required additional stock work to be fit. Both were transition parts from the model 97/1897.  The latch mag tubes were used up and they stopped using this style of butt plate to save cost on production.  It is to bad because it definitely looks better.
Visually this rifle is absolutely stunning.  Stocked with Marlin’s “Extra Fancy Wood” with Special Checking.  The checking in not a “standard” Marlin checking patern so this too is unique!  Front sight is the standard ivory bead sight, the rear sight is extremely rare.  I only know of one other but this one has an ivory ring in the sight and the other sight did not.  Wood to metal fit is tight and there are no cracks or splits in the wood. The 24 inch octagon barrel blue is as new including the sharp edges of the barrel. The case color on the left side and top of the reciever are as vibrant as I have seen o this vintage of a rifle.  The right side of the reciever has faded from use as has the lever and tang.  This is consistent with a right handed shooter.  The receivers on the 39 were the balancing point of the rifle and that is why there is often fading of the case colors. It could also be attributed, in part, to being displayed in the light.

Last 2 pics are and early Model 39 standard rifle I             will be posting.
