1917 Colt M1911 s/n 210179
All original. One of 400 pistols shipped to the United States Marine Corps on 3 August 1917. Original Colt brushed blue finish rates perhaps 60-70%, which is actually quite good for an original Marine Corps pistol more than 100 years.
Please see all the images and contact me with any questions, or to purchase the pistol. Rarely do I ever sell such a scarce and desirable pistol from my own collection. However, seeing a 1917 U.S.M.C. recently sold for more than $27K on an Internet site a few months ago convinced me I didn't need to keep this duplicate in my collection.
I've priced this pistol at a fraction of what the other pistol sold for at . My pistol is not a nice condition, but it is certainly just as authentic and original. The rear sight notch has been slightly enlarged. I've set the price to reflect what I consider to be a very reasonable amount for such a rare and historic pistol.
You will notice the pistol has serif-style lettering. The pistols in this serial range were produced about a month before Colt switched over to block lettering in September 1917. Colt was manufacturing pistols for the Army in the 177xxx serial range when the change occurred.
The U.S.M.C. pistols in this specific serial range were manufactured with higher serial numbers assigned to the Marine Corps at an earlier date, most likely because pistols were needed by the Corps for WWI.
All correct U.S.M.C. pistols that are still original finish are rare as hens teeth. Don't miss out on this opportunity to acquire a true survivor.
