1946 Colt Government Model s/n C221919
Extremely rare early post-WWII 1st year Government Model assembled with U.S. M1911A1 surpus parts.
Following WWII, Colt transitioned back to producing commercial Govt. Model pistols. It took more than one year before the first pistols were assembled in October 1946. The first 2000 pistols were assembled using surplus military parts from the last military M1911A1 pistols Colt ever produced in 1945. This is one of those pistols.
It has the Military/Commercial transfer slide with both military and commercial slide slide markings. The small parts are surplus military parts, as are the stocks. The barrel is a new production 1946 GM barrel with "P" proof, as described in Clawson's Government Models book.
This pistol also has the cool factor of being assembled EXACTLY 5 years after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. See factory letter which is included with the gun.
The finish is Colt factory original Black Magic, first used on these pistols. The pistols shows a little use, but still presents very well on both sides.
