Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: The Smith & Wesson Model 681 Distinguished Service Revolver is the non-adjustable sight version of the Model 686. They were manufactured from 1980 to 1992 only, so you do not see this model on the market very often. This L-frame model came with a 4-inch barrel and a stainless steel finish. They were designed to be a no-frills and super tough combat or self defense gun. This example is used, but in very good condition overall and has been well-cared for with a superb custom tuned action. At some point since leaving the factory the original wooden grips were replaced with black rubber Pachmayers for better recoil absorbtion, otherwise the gun appears original from the outside. The stainless finish shows some small handling and use marks scattered about, with the worst of these being the abrasions on the left side of the frame. They are so fine they cannot be felt with your finger, only seen. We would imagine the next owner could polish those off if he or she so chooses. The bore is excellent in this Model 681 with strong rifling and a mirror bright appearance. There is no pitting, erosion, or any other imperfection visible. The cylinder bores are equally as clean. The action and mechanics in this Smith & Wesson are superb and in excellent condition. The action is perfectly "in time" and locks up tight. This Model 681 has certainly had a professional action job given the smoothness of the action and the extremely light trigger, particularly in single action operation. It feels more like a factory hand-fitted gun built in the 1950's rather than 1980's or 90's. The meshing of internal parts is seamless and crisp, certainly the work of an skilled gunsmith. If you have been looking for a great home or car defense pistol, or just a new range toy for your collection, this Smith & Wesson Distinguished Service revolver would be an excellent choice.
