Here is an interesting and rare 1948 Winchester 94 Flatband. The serial number is 1498292, which, according to my research puts it fairly early in the 1948 production year. This wonderful carbine features a 20” round barrel with crowned muzzle, full length magazine, a ramp type front sight, with a missing hood, and a series 22 rear sight with a 3c elevator. The stocks are a spectacular, center-crotch, flame-grain American walnut with B-style carving. The receiver features Winchester style 4 engraving. The left side depicts a hunter in a very detailed forest scene aiming his rifle with two bull elk in the foreground, one laying on the ground, having been shot, the other, with his head held high, having also been shot. The right side features a grizzly bear on a promontory point and extremely fine and wonderfully executed foliate arabesque patterns. The engraving has been authenticated by Pauline Muerrle to be the work of a Winchester factory engraver. The hammer, trigger, lever, and barrel bands are in bright metal. The overall condition of this gun is near perfect, with only very minor handling flaws. This would make a fine addition to almost any collection.
