Description:
PRICE REDUCED!!! WESTLEY RICHARDS COLLECTORS AND HAMMER GUN SHOOTERS ATTENTION! UP FOR SALE IS W/R PERCUSSION MUZZLE LOADING 14 GAUGE SHOTGUN #6001. MADE IN 1846 WITH FACTORY DOCUMENTATION. EXCELLLENT CONDITION WITH TWIST STEEL BARRELS IN SUPER SHAPE.  NEVER RESTORED IN ANY WAY. VERY SHOOTABLE DIMENSIONS - 14 1/2" LOP. 1 3/8" DAC. 2 1/4" DAH. Westley Richards is one of the finest gunmakers in the world and has been in business for over 200 years. We have had the gun documented by the makers and these records are included as part of the sale. According to their records, #6001 was completed on February 6th, 1846 and was made for stock. The gun came to us from the estate of a person who has been collecting British military uniforms for 40 years. The uniforms are going to a museum in the UK but the executor consigned this fine piece to us to sell. We doubt if it has been seen by the public for many, many years and is in close to new condition. It is very petite...mounts like a 1930's game gun. Original 26 1/4" barrels (including the extra 1/4" for the rammer stop at the end of the barrels). 14 1/2" length of pull. The stock has quite modern drops. W/R records state that the length from the middle of the butt to the bottom of the breech is 16 ½” and that is exactly what it measures now.  Weight is 6 pounds 12 ounces. Fine twist barrels have a diameter of .69” or 14 gauge, agreeing exactly with the W/R records. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, and the minimum barrel wall thickness is .047”. (PLEASE NOTE: In some of the larger photos of the barrels the finish looks quite light. This is not wear but actually glare.)  Exquisite oil finished walnut stock with vivid black streaks and excellent flat top checkering of the early style. There is one tiny sliver of wood lost on the left edge of the forend (see photo) that is hardly noticeable with the barrels mounted, an easy repair. No other scratches, cracks, splits or chips. We feel that the gun may be safe to shoot with appropriate loads after being examined by a gunsmith knowledgeable about this period of shotguns and Damascus barrels. Nice floral and scroll engraving on the locks. Platinum blow out plugs. The nipples show no wear or corrosion at all. Steel buttplate has about all of its original bluing. The receiver shows no signs of ever having been case colored since with the hooked barrels dismounted none is visible on the standing breeches or elsewhere inside the receiver. Any greenish color in the photos is congealed grease. We feel that the piece has seen very, very little use at all. Multiple photos  and W/R ledger sheet attached. No case included. WILL SHIP OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES ON CERTAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS. PLEASE EMAIL US BEFORE IF THIS APPLIES TO YOU. Antique – no FFL or C&R required.
