This is an absolutely stunning Colt Single Action revolver with an even more fantastic story. The pistol was originally owned by Dr. Thomas Hepburn of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, father of famed actress Katherine Hepburn. One day Katherine and her brother Tom were playing in a sailboat near their home in Fenwick (Old Saybrook) when a wave capsized the boat and the two began drifting out to sea. Frank Ingham, a respected local fisherman, jumped to action and rescued the two. From that day on Mr. Ingham became a close friend to the Hepburn family. He was especially liked by Katherine, who would spend countless hours by his old fishing shed listening to stories, learning how to fish, and row a boat. The incident is well documented, having been noted in several publications (some of which incorrectly refer to Mr. Ingham as "William" rather than Frank). In recognition of saving Katherine's life, Dr. Hepburn presented Frank Ingham with this Colt revolver. At the marriage of Frank's daughter Marion in 1941, he gave the pistol to his 'new' son-in-law Marshall Wilcox. Marshall and Marion kept the revolver for nearly 60 years, selling it to noted local collector James Malone in 2000. I purchased the gun directly from Mr. Malone who was gracious enough to provide a written letter detailing the gun's history which will be included in the sale of this revolver along with a Colt factory letter. The gun remains in excellent condition and is absolutely 100% original and untouched. Photos do not do it justice, it is better in person. The frame and hammer retain 85%+ vibrant case color just slightly toning to plum. The barrel, triggerguard, and backstrap show 90%+ bright bluing with minor thinning. The cylinder retains about 85% finish while the ejector housing shows light wear along the outer surface which has thinned to gray. The factory polishing down and away from the front sight on both sides is still visible. The original hard rubber grips fit perfect and have no chips or cracks. They show little to no wear with light overall fading. All original screws are perfect. Crisp original barrel address, serial numbers, rampant horse, and patent dates. The action is flawlessly crisp and functions like new. The bore is a perfect "10" with immaculate shiny lands and grooves front to back. All history aside it would be hard to improve upon a Colt Single Action of this vintage. It is certainly one of the finest condition Colt's I have owned in my 40 plus years of collecting. This is a true investment grade gun that has added charm and association to one of the greatest actresses of all time.
