Description:
General Specs: Browning, Year 1977, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, IC/M, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 61847 S77

The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most prolific designs.  Produced in plain jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 and into 1977 when regular production stopped.  After 1977 only custom ordered “P Series” Browning Superposed were available to purchase.   In 1967 Browning introduced the "SUPERLIGHT" in the 12ga. and finally was born a true upland bird gun.  A typical Browning Lightning model weighs about 7lbs. 4oz. and the standard 12ga. came in at 7 3/4lbs.   At 6lbs. 11oz. and balanced perfectly between the hands, this 12 gauge Superlight is over 1/2lb. lighter than the Lightning and a full pound lighter than the standard Superposed 12ga. gun!  This is a dynamic upland bird gun, with its straight hand stock, rounded frame, and slim forend that can be carried all day without fatigue.  This gun, sn61847 s77 built in 1977, is one of only a small number of 12ga. Superlight guns made between 1967 and 1977.  It is very special in that being an FN built gun for the European market, it has a 27 ½” set of barrels where all Superlights brought to the USA by Browning had 26 ½” barrels.  Most shooters today like the longer barrels.  Better yet, the gun retains 99.5% factory original condition with only a few light handling marks in the wood.  Speaking of wood, this Superlight has the nicest figured wood I have ever seen on a Grade 1, as they are usually quite plain.  The wood on this gun has “fiddleback” figure that changes as the light hits it from different angles and European walnut nicely figured on both sides.  Browning guys are known to love the more figured wood and the gun is worth more because of it.  Highly desired by upland hunters that are in the know, these guns usually trade in the mid-$3000 range when showing wear on the bottom of the receiver and the usually nicks and dings from use.  This gun, with nicely figured factory wood, 99% factory blue on the receiver, barrels, and trigger guard, with only the slightest wear by the safety button, clean inside and out and barely fired is worth a bit more.  Keep in mind that this gun is POST SALT WOOD ERA, PRODUCED IN 1977 AFTER THE DEBACLE HAD ENDED.  Many of the earlier guns were plagued with salt stocks and are not worth as much as the later guns.  There are few Over/Under 12ga. shotguns that weigh under 7lbs.  The Superposed guns have been going up in value in the last year or two, so they are a great investment quality gun that will be worth more in the future as you care for it and enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
