Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1937, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 7oz, LM/F, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 5/8"
Serial Number: 162159

There is no shortage of L.C. Smith Field Grade 16ga. guns.  They made 38,678 of them.  HOWEVER,   HOW MANY DO YOU THINK REMAIN IN UNFIRED,  NEW CONDITION?  Likely not a hundred or so.  This L.C. Smith Field 16ga. sn162159 made in 1937, is crisp and new, with only a few minor handling marks from storage and assembling.  There are no, none, zero primer marks on the standing breech around the firing pin holes, indicating an unfired gun.  There is no wear to the wood, trigger guard, receiver or barrels.  The gun came to me in what appears to be the original box.  The gun was wrapped in paper and surrounded by cardboard.  There were two items in the box dated 1943; a newspaper with war news in it, and a small box from a clock maker, with a March of 1943 postage mark on it.  It appears the items were in the box as some form of memory or documentation, like maybe the owner went off to war, maybe even died overseas, as the gun was never used.  Maybe the little box from the watch maker had a watch somebody’s son left for the war with.  We can only surmise.  This is one of those times you wish the gun could talk.  The gun was made by Hunter Arms of Fulton New York.  You can see part of the word "Fulton" on the remnants of the box end.  There is no proof that the box is original to the gun, but it is likely that the family kept it with the gun as the gun has never seen the light of day.  The finishes are all definitively factory original, not restored.  The case color is brilliant, and that only happens when it is kept in the dark.  There are no signs of any rust or oxidation, as the cardboard box helps keep humidity away from the metal.  I bought the gun in the box and may have been the first one to assemble the gun.  Look at the photos…THIS IS NOT A RESTORED GUN!  An amazing find, with good shooting dimensions, and offered at a price that is affordable to most.  Thanks for looking and don’t miss this great opportunity to own a rare L.C. Smith Field Grade gun in new condition, with what is likely the original box!
