Description:
1942 Colt M1911A1 serial number 807263. This pistol is entirely original and unaltered. It has a matching numbered slide and all correct and original parts, including the Colt large G barrel which has perfectly matching wear patterns to the slide and receiver.

This pistol has the first style Colt Parkerized finish, which is much lighter in color than later wartime examples. The 1st style finish was only used from ca. s/n 735000 to ca. s/n 810000. In this serial range, small parts have a distinctly different color as well...as seen on this pistol.

This pistol also has the rare Transitional Colt Coltwood type 2 stocks with wide rings, but hollow back sides. These rare stocks were only used for a short period of time in the summer of 1942 while Colt transitioned over from small ring hollowback to wide ring reinforced stocks. The outer "wide ring" mold was implemented before the inner "reinforced back" mold, which led to this rarley seen stock. These stocks typically only appear on some Colt pistols with serial numbers between 801000 and 821000.

The magazine with this pistol is a Colt Commercial/Military transfer magazine with pinned base. In July 1942, Colt suspended commercial sales and began to transfer pistols, pistol parts and magazines to satisfy the military orders. The earliest trnasferred receivers I've examined are in the 798xxx serial range and have an "S" mark on the top of the receiver to idnetify them as transfers. Colt did the same thing with commercial magazines. The brightly polished bases were sandblasted to reduce glare, and these magazines were then factory refinished to military standards. This process was rather rushed due to wartime demand, and most transferred magazines show signs of flaking in the finish...as does this magazine. The flaking was due to surfaces not being properly cleaned and de-greased prior to finish being applied.

Many of these ealry Parkerized Colts from the summer of 1942 saw extensive action in the Pacific campaign, as U.S. Naval and Marine Corps personnel were dispatched there to combat the Japanese after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

This pistol displays ca. 95% original type 1 Colt Parkerized finish with limited wear and handling. Finish may appear less than that due to the light color of the early finish and because we are used to seeing later, darker finished used on later war pistols.

This pistol displays nice, early features and the rare Transitional stocks and C/M magazine. It is an ealry, all original example that is scarcely seen. A nice addition to any collection.
