Description:
This staff and field sword is minty with the higher grade hangers, the presentation is easy to read. This sword was presented to liuetenant GEORGE F. PETERSON, ADJT. 27TH , REGEMENT CONNECTICUT VOLUNTEERS on OCTOBER 20TH 1862. This regiment goes way back in Connecticut history and is a storyied NEW HAVEN military history going way back before the CIVIL WAR. History of it's stand at the WHEAT FIELD AT GETTYSBURG  is renouned ,five monuments stand , Henry C. Merwin was one of Peterson comrades and received the MEDAL OF HORNOR, HIS LAST WORDS WERE'' MY POOR REGIMENT IS SUFFERING FEARFULLY''. Much of this regiment had been captured at CHANCELLORSVILLE.
