ORNATE GERMAN SILVER MOUNTED PERCUSSION DOUBLE RIFLE SIGNED MORGENROTH IN GERNRODE CA. 1830. 45” o/a with 29 ½” double octagon .60 cal. smoothbore barrels inlaid with the maker’s name and town in silver. Ornate German silver mounts with game scene engraving. Walnut stock with game scene and floral relief carving and a sliding wood patch box. Sterling silver engraved wrist plate with script monogram (JM). Engraved locks and hammers and rotatinhg nipple guards one of which is lost. Barrels silver inlaid and with hand applied stippled and floral matting. Original early percussion era and may date to the late 1820’s. Very good and all original. Original metal patina and stock finish. Working order and good bores. Original ramrod. High quality and very handsome. The Morganroth family of gun makers spanned several generations in Gernrode, Anhalt, Germany.
