World War I Turkish Naval Officer’s Sword
Lion’s Head Pommel with Star & Crescent Etching
Here we present a World War I Turkish Naval Officers Sword, made circa 1914. This small dress sword is quite ornate with a lion’s head pommel, folding hilt, and etched blade. Influence seems to be German. The grip is made of bone with a wire wrap. The knucklebow is absent. Naval regalia is cast into the folding guard. The blade features a beautiful floral etching with crossed scimitars and star & crescent. The spine features a merchant mark “VAHRAM TAGIRIAN CONSTANTINOPLE”.
The overall condition is fair. The blade is 29-1/2 inches and chrome plated and is shows some wear due to age and climate. The knucklebow has been removed. The leather scabbard is in good shape though a little shrunken, causing the blade to not completely seat.
