FINE Civil War CLAUBERG American Eagle Sword
Beautifully Etched & Engraved Officers Sword
Here we present an antique W. Clauberg American Eagle Sword, manufactured in Solingen, Germany circa 1860. The firm of W. Clauberg of Solingen, Germany is known as a high grade, high quality manufacturer of swords. J.P. Fitch of New York City imported and sold these to officers and soldiers during the American Civil War.
This one is very beautifully appointed with an eagle head pommel, ornately twisted knucklebow, rayskin grip, and etched and engraved blade. The blade features highly detailed figures of an infantryman with his musket facing the viewer and an officer on the other side with his back turned. Fancy scrollwork makes up the balance with a “US” on one side. The base of the blade bears the makers mark “J.P. FITCH/NEW YORK/W. CLAUBERG/SOLINGEN”. Scabbard was blued.
The overall condition of this sword is near fine. The blade is 31-1/2 inches long and bears a beautiful engraving. The pommel is elaborately adorned with an eagle’s head. The grip is rayskin with part of the wire wrap remaining.
