Description:
General Specs: Remington Rand, Year 1943, .45 acp
Serial Number: 1502439

The Colt Model 1911 was adopted by the U.S. Army as the official sidearm of the military in 1911.  Since that time the Colt 1911 has been the most prolific and admired handgun design ever introduced.  Military and commercial use of this handgun continues in today’s shooting world with ever-increasing vigor.  Shooters love the 1911!  There are more custom builders of the 1911 than any time in the past and most of today’s modern manufacturers have their version of this fine pistol.  During WWII the need for these sidearms exceeded Colt Manufacturing Company’s capacity compared to the war effort’s needs and contracts were signed between the U.S. Army and several other manufactures to build the venerable Colt 1911A1 (the Army designation for the improved version that was adopted in 1925).  One of these companies was Remington-Rand, the maker of this pistol serial number 1502439 produced in 1943.  If you collect 1911’s you are aware that there are a lot of WWII vintage pistols for sale and at what seems affordable prices.  Most have all been rebuilt, either at an arsenal or by gunsmiths, most have mis-matched parts, refinished parts, and worn parts.  This is to be expected as these guns saw hard use in horrendous conditions.  WHAT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND ARE COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL, INTACT EXAMPLES in pristine condition that saw little if any field use and have not been messed with in any way.  That is what we have here in this fine Remington-Rand M1911A1.  All parts, both internal and external, are as originally shipped in 1943.  The pistol retains 98% of the original Parkerized finish, the barrel retains 90% of the original blue and a shiny bore with crisp rifling and no pitting or corrosion, the grips are pristine, all of the parts are stamped with the proper numbers and letters, the safety, slide stop, trigger, and hammer are all correct for the period and the maker…even the grips are proper and original to the gun.  Two magazines came to us with the gun and they may not be original to the gun.  If you examine the photos you will notice that there is no noticeable wear to the front or rear grip straps showing how little this gun was fired.  There is not a single spot of corrosion on the gun anywhere, nor anything that would be considered a blemish in the finish…just light wear on the hard edges toward the muzzle.  This is a great find and a superb example of a pristine, war-era 1911 pistol that will continue to gain value as the interest in 1911’s and WWII era firearms continues to gain momentum, and it is priced right as well.  Thanks for looking!
