This rifle conforms to known early productuin guns as described in the excellent book "C S Armory Richmond" by Davies. All these early guns used Harpers Ferry stocks as the stock making machinery was not set and running at the time of production. The barrel is full length with a very good bore. The butt plate is for iron and notched for a patchbox but has no "US" stamp. The lockplate is early with no "CS" stamped over Richmond. The stock must have been an unfinished stock as it has the mules foot internally but several screw recess are not milled. It has a 1861 type rear sight and I removed it to check for a steady pin slot--that it has--and the sight has been on it since period of use . A really nice example of a very rare early Confederate Richmond rifle musket that will be a great addition to your collection.
