Description:
12ga, serial number 29XX. Back-action, non-rebounding hammers. Double trigger. Utilizing Hodges patent use number 438. Jones under-lever. 2 1/2" chambers, 30" barrels, both barrels have very open chokes. Both barrels ring true. Barrels retain extensive quantity of browned Damascus pattern. No apparent dents. Bores show minor pitting, slighly more pitting in right barrel. Receiver and locks are grey, yet maintain good wood to metal fit. 60% fine scroll engraving on action and locks. Lesser quantity on tang. Forend shows wear and use, over original flat-top checkering. Wedged catch. Finely engraved steel finale. Buttstock very sound, refinished without extensive rework. LOP 15 3/8" from front trigger, 14 1/2" from rear trigger. Steel non-engraved buttplate. Silver initial oval missing from buttstock. Serial number shows on forend metal, forend wood, both barrels and action flats. Proofed as 12 bore. Barrel marked "S. Grant 67A St James St London", with "HW" for barrel maker. 1866-1889. Comes with later period oak and leather case with extensively re-worked interior. Maintains a proper period addressed label and serial numbered charge card. J.W. initials on outside of case.
