POND Belt Revolver Patent Infringement Revolver Sued by S&W Here we present an antique Lucius W. Pond Belt Revolver, manufactured circa 1862 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only a few thousand thought to have been made. This revolver features six shots of .32 rimfire. The left side of the barrel is marked “MANUF’D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT’D APRIL 3, 1855”. The top of the barrel is marked “L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS. PAT’D JULY 10, 1860”. Pond was sued over this pistol as Smith & Wesson owned the Rollin White Patent, giving them exclusive rights to produce revolvers with bored through cylinders. Pond lost the suit and made further attempts to design a revolver that would work around S&W. This revolver is similar to the S&W Model No. 2 in several ways, including the tip up barrel design for loading and unloading. However, the Pond’s hinge is located at the rear of the frame and is more robust, making it less prone to wobble. This revolver has a distinctive brass front sight blade and a simple notch in the middle of the barrel hinge. The overall condition is good. The steel has been polished and is regaining a patina. The grip frame features a period repair where it meets the frame, both top and bottom. One wonders what sort of event would have separated the two. The markings are clear. Numbers match. The rosewood grips are fair, with a crack on the right panel. The bore is shiny with sharp rifling, fine condition. The action is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .32 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
