Description:
The Winchester Model 1897 was made from 1897 to 1957, with approximately 1,024,700 manufactured. The standard slide action shotguns were fitted with barrels 26 to 32 inches in length, visible hammer, plain pistol grip stock, take-down or solid frame, various chokes, and were chambered 12 or 16 gauge. This 1923 vintage standard Model 1897 is fitted with a 30 inch barrel (choked full), solid frame, and chambered in 12 gauge. The gun is in very nice original condition, retaining 70% of its blue finish, with most loss on the magazine tube, due to cycling of the action, and on the bottom of the receiver, due to handling. The steel butt-plate has lost all of its original blue finish and is somewhat rusty. The bore is bright, with assorted minor pitting throughout. The action is tight and functions perfectly. The forearm retains most all of its original finish, with no cracks or chips. The stock retains most all of its original finish, there is some thinning due to handling, and there is a thin/small crack on the right side at the butt and a crack on the left side at the frame.
