U.S. Springfield Model “1898” Krag Bolt Action Rifle
Used in the Philippine-American War
Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Krag-Jorgenson Bolt Action Rifle, made in 1898. This would have started out life as a full-length rifle and was subsequently shortened to a carbine format. The receiver is marked “U.S.MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY.” This falls into the correct serial range for the very scarce and desirable Krag 1898 Carbines and Rifles. Some of these were used in the Philippine-American War.
The overall condition is good. The steel has 85% blue. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is smooth and solid with the top hand guard being oversized and unfinished. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent.
