Description:

CIVIL WAR Antique CLAUBURG 1840 Cavalry Saber

Civil War Import from Solingen, Germany!

Here we present an Antique W. Clauberg U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, manufactured in Solingen, Germany circa 1860. The 1840 was quite a heavy sword that was based on the French M1822. In fact, it was heavy enough to be known as “the Old Wristbreaker” by officers and enlisted men alike. These swords were used during the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and the Indian Wars. Being that they were issued during the years prior to the American Civil War, both sides retained these in service.

This example is in very good condition. The maker’s mark “W. Clauberg/Solingen” is on the left side of the blade. The blade is 36 inches in length. No inspector’s mark is apparent. This sword was likely issued to local and state militias. Scabbard is in very good condition. Most of the leather grip remains and the braided wire wrap is complete.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Overall condition as seen in photos.
