Description:

“1852”-Dated HARPERS FERRY ARMORY M1842 Musket

CIVIL WAR CLASSIC Last .69 Smoothbore made!

Here we present an antique Harpers Ferry Armory Model 1842 Musket, made in 1852 in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. This rifle was the first military regulation rifle to be manufactured at both Harpers Ferry Armory as well as Springfield Armory, the first to be manufactured using the “American System of Manufacture” and the last .69 smoothbore musket to be manufactured by the United States government. Approximately 275,000 were manufactured between 1844 and 1855, with nearly two-thirds of these produced at Springfield. Additional examples were made under contract by A. H. Waters and Benjamin Flagg of Milbury, Massachusetts, and at South Carolina's Palmetto Armory. The Model 1842 was fielded in the Mexican-American War and then the American Civil War.

This specimen’s lock is marked “Harpers Ferry/1852” to the rear of the hammer. The left side of the barrel bears the view and proof marks of the U.S. government. The top of the steel butt plate is marked “U.S.” This rifle also comes with a handmade metal tag marked “PROPERTY of/AMSA BROWN”.

The overall condition is very good. This piece looks like it has just come out of the attic. The metal surfaces bear a smooth, dark brown patina. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is in great shape with smooth surfaces. The stock shows honest use and is in very nice condition. The action is excellent. Here is a great example of a Harpers Ferry Smoothbore Musket that would have been fielded in the American Civil War!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
