Engraved ENGLISH Antique WILSON of LONDON PISTOL
Beautiful 1840s Officer’s Percussion Pistol
Here we present an antique British Officer’s Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s, likely by Archibald Wilson. This .577 caliber smoothbore pistol features an engraved lock, barrel tang, and trigger guard with a pineapple shaped finial. The lock is marked “WILSON”. The barrel is marked “LONDON”. The barrel is fully octagonal with a great twist pattern. There are two thin silver bands at the breech end. The walnut stock is very nicely figured with nice, sharp checkering around the grip. This would have been a full-sized fighting pistol for an officer or gentleman.
The overall condition is fine. The barrel retains a its fantastic twist pattern. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock features a nice grain with few handling marks except the sliver on the left side near the muzzle and the small crack forward of the front wedge escutcheon. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is excellent.
