Antique WINCHESTER 1885 High Wall Rifle in .38-55
Made in 1891 w 3 Weight Octagonal Barrel
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle in .38-55, made in 1891 in New Haven, Connecticut. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.
This specimen is chambered for the venerable .38-55 cartridge. It features a 30-inch #3 weight octagonal barrel.
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is about 85%. The case colors on the frame are about 25%. The markings are clear. This rifle has several areas of light pitting due to improper storage or else this would be a much higher conditioned rifle. The walnut stock is in great shape, smooth and solid. The bore is in fine condition, shiny with sharp rifling. The action is excellent.
