This is the famed Snyder patent breech loading mechanism. Very effective breech loading system that was copied by just about everybody including the US with their Trapdoor Springfield. The principle is the same although it does work differently. Cal 577 Snyder. This gun went through one of the arsenal rebuilds a long time ago. The wood has been cut and the ramrod hole has been filled. Very nicely done making me believe it was armory done. Gun is in overall good cond. Some pitting throughout. Pretty much a salt and pepper color with light pin-prick pitting. Wood looks good and sturdy with the orig brass buttplate and trigger guard. Relatively good fitting.
