This is a splendid rifle that was built on a Swiss military receiver, and is maker stamped on the barrel: “R. Bützberger / Huttwill". The action itself, has been little-modified, save for the removal of the ring type cocking-piece, and is now a single-shot with contoured loading tray, and extremely nice double set triggers with ornate trigger guard. The metal components are all-matching numbered, and retain 95-97% of the original blue finish with some small spots of fading here and there, as well as a few small chatter, or tool marks near the muzzle on either side of the barrel. The barrel has a simple blade front sight, married to a removable, Schutzen type rear sight, mounted on an integral rail allowing for adjustable eye-relief. The wedge-fastened walnut stock has lovely figured wood with small handling marks scattered about the original varnish finish, and is equipped with a Schutzen style hooked butt as well. A small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel, just ahead of the blunt schnabel forend tip. According to the previous owner, it was originally purchased out of Switzerland, and imported to Canada in 1993, but information prior to that is not available. Regardless, this is a superbly made, Schmidt-Rubin Schutzen rifle, and would make a great addition to any collection.
