Description:
Serial #979, 7.5mm Swiss, 33 1/4" fluted octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle with sparse embellishment, but excellent workmanship. The frame is maker marked on the right side: “CHARLES HEER / VEVEY" (a town on the north shore of Lake Geneva); and retains 75-80% of the original blue finish with plum-brown wear along the edges, and some silvering at the muzzle. A small area of the bottom facet has been polished and a past owner's name and town have been engraved in block capitals: “S. WÜTRICH. FLENDRUZ.", and a small, unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside just ahead of the forend tip. The breech-block is finished in bright nickel, as is the elaborate schutzen lever. The rifle is outfitted with its original open target sights without any provision for mounting a tang sight. The smooth walnut forend is wedge-fastened, and has some minor handling marks and surface blemishes. The butt has a Swiss schutzen profile; hooked butt with a large, contoured cheek-piece, but is devoid of a pistol grip, and has a drop shallow enough to allow for shooting from the prone position. The rifle was part of the collection of Constable John Anderson of the W.R. Yorkshire Constabulary who was twice a member of the Great Britain Police Shooting Team, and competed in the European Police Shooting Championships in 1960 and 1963. P.C. Anderson became a gun dealer after he retired and, according to his son in an accompanying information sheet, purchased this rifle from John Powell, Gunmaker, in 1973 (the original sales receipt is also included). This is a splendid 7.5mm Swiss target rifle and rates fine-near excellent condition overall. FFL or C&R
