Description:
This is a great example of the sought-after and scarce "Ramrod Bayonet" Springfield Trapdoor.  This Model 1889 Springfield Trapdoor rifle is an all-original example built in 1893.  The original factory finishes show some wear and age but have a nice consistent patina.  As you can see in the pictures provided the factory blued metal parts including the lockplate and hammer show a lot of original blue in places, with the balance appearing a brown-blue.  The breechblock shows traces of the original case hardened finish in the protected areas, and the bore in this Model 1889 is in excellent condition overall.  The rifling still looks sharp and the bore is bright with no noticeable pitting or erosion.  The Buffington rear sight is still in place and 100% functional as well as the action, which locks into battery perfectly and all 3 hammer positions are still intact.  The original stock is free from cracks or repairs and is in excellent condition overall.  The original U.S. inspector's cartouche is in great shape on the left side of the stock ("SWP over 1893") and the circle "P" is still clean and legible on the keel of the buttstock.  The original buttplate is still in place with a functional trap, and both the upper and lower barrel bands are in place and tight with functional bandsprings.  This Model 1889 comes with the original ramrod bayonet in place.  The ramrod bayonet is in excellent shape and still shows a lot of original factory blue finish.  The mechanism that holds it in the rifle is in perfect working order, and holds it securely retracted or extended.  Everything on this Springfield works 100% like it was designed to work.  If you have been looking for one of these scarce U.S. Military rifles here is your chance to get a nice honest and original example.
