Description:
#4907 CASED Colt 1851 Navy Model, 7-1/2”x36cal, 5XXX (c,1852) early 3rd Variation with the small oval triggerguard and barrel address without “America”, small loading cut-out, and no capping groove. All matching numbers including the rammer and wedge. Excellent, smooth old refinish exterior with a 99.9% cylinder scene remaining (with all cylinder pins remaining), 99% excellent refinished blue and 50% thinning casecolor on the frame. Fine action and the bore is VG with fine rifling.Very well fitting original one piece “Slim Jim” wood grips with just medium wear and no serious damage. This 176 year old very early Colt Navy was argumentively the best thing going during the California Gold Rush, and anyone fortunate enough to purchase such a gun would certainly have an advantage in a gun fight over a disputed gold claim. The casing looks to be an original American dealer casing, but needs to be restored to match the revolver, as it is in considerably less condition. The Colt mold however, is the same excellent condition as the revolver, but the flask is not the correct Colt Navy flask, and the cap tin(s) are not the correct ones for THIS casing. The case itself has a cracked lid, but is solid and very usable as it is. All-in-all, a very decent looking and very early old Navy that likely saw the entire Gold Rush era as well as possibly being in the American Civil War as a personal weapon of some soldier or officer. It is priced with the consideration that the revolver has seen a lot of restoration and some of the accruedrements (such as the flask) are incorrect. VG+ as described. $5950
