STATELY Cased & Engraved Matched DUELING PISTOLS
Carved & Fluted Stocks, Engraved in Glass Topped Case
Here we present an antique matched pair of Percussion Duelers, made circa 1855 in Europe. This pair would have been intended to be a status symbol, used for occasional recreation, and perhaps even defending one’s honor in gentlemanly duels in the 19th Century.
These pistols were made by hand by a master of his craft. Each part is hand-fitted for very tight tolerances. The lock, hammer, breech of the barrel, barrel tang, pommel cap, and trigger guard of each gun are all finely engraved. The trigger guards each have a hook on the bottom for a middle finger rest for more stability. The stocks are fluted in the grip with the front of the stocks being carved in scroll. The barrels are octagonal and heavy, though this feature helps achieve a very nice balance. The pattern on the barrels is a fine twist. The bore is a very large .54 caliber with small groove rifling. The case is glass topped with dark walnut construction.
Overall condition is fine. The twist pattern on the barrels is very good. The engraving is sharp and clear. The stocks show some handling, but are solid. Bores are sharp and clean. The actions are excellent.
