Description: General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1913, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, Chokes IC/IM , LOP 14", DAH 2 7/8", DAC 1 7/8" Serial Number: 215928 The year 1913 was the first offering of the Specialty Grade in the catalogues, as L.C. Smith changed their grade designations from numbered grades (Grade 1, Grade 2, etc), to named grades in 1913. You may have heard mention of “pre-1913” Elsies and “post-1913” Elsies, and this is the most notable difference. Most are aware that initial offerings usually bring out the best work from a gunmaker, as they want to make a great impression with their “new and improved” versions of their guns. This fine upland gun made by L.C. Smith (Hunter Arms) in 1913, SN215928, is ready to chase your favorite upland birds or smash clay targets with real class. This Elsie is in factory original, unmolested condition, with 60% factory case color and 97% factory blue. Examine the photos closely and you will note that the engraving is definitively better and more defined than later L.C. Smith Specialty Grade guns. From a shooter’s standpoint, this is one of those “magic wand” Elsies, one that weighs just 6 ¼ pounds and balances just perfect ¼” ahead of the hinge pin, even with the 28” barrels. This gun is mechanically excellent as well, with crisp double triggers, excellent screws and bores, barrels tight as new on hinge pin and breech face with the top lever still in the center. With only 720 16ga. Specialty Grade guns produced and likely less than 650 left on the planet, it is an investment quality gun that will increase in value as you enjoy its use. If you are a shooter who loves straight grip stocks, take note, as less than 10% of the guns shipped with the special-order English style grip. That means less than 70 were ever made with the straight grip. With the growth of the L.C. Smith Collector’s Association and the competitive vintage shoots with the Parker Gun Collectors Association and the A.H. Fox Gun Collectors Association, the demand for fine Elsies has been on the rise. We all know that increased demand equals rising prices. Now is the time to invest in this fine collectible shotgun. The photos of this gun will help you note the THE BEST in Specialty Grade engraving. Thanks for looking and don’t hesitate or she’ll be gone!
