Description:
For sale is a very desirable Browning Superposed Diana Grade Lightning 20 GaugeSN 27XXX V3 (approximate manufacture date1963). The barrel sets with matching serial numbers ,feature
2-3/4″ and 3” chambers, are matted, ventilated ribs, and stamped with ‘Browning St. Louis, Missouri and Montreal’ addresses.  Barrels are 28” and 26.5”.  The coin / gray finish of the action is engraved in the Diana Grade 1960’s style, in deep relief with oak leaves and acorns as counterpoint to game scenes, with five pheasants (one in flight) on left; four ducks (2 in flight) on right. Bottom of action portrays a pair of grouse in flight; with pair rabbits on the trigger guard bow. The original owners initials ‘LPH’ are engraved below the 2 rabbits.  The gold trigger bears minimal evidence of handling and retains substantially all of its gold plating.   Typical during this period of outstanding Superposed production and engraving, often several engravers worked on a single Superposed. Accordingly, this Diana Grade does not bear the signature of any of the Browning master engravers, although the scrollwork and engraving bears the detail of the great engravers employed at FN during this period. .

This fine Lightning Superposed appears little used and fired minimally since manufacture.  The action is crisp and tight and mechanically excellent.  Barrels are shiny and appears as new with no marks or pitting. The stock and field style fore ends (both barrel sets) feature medium color, nicely grained European walnut, and the sought after round knob, long tang (RKLT) grip.  The stock measures 14 1/4″ over the original Browning composition buttplate.  The stock features Point pattern checkering with beaded and mullered borders at grip, and on the matching field type fore ends. Additional stock measurements are Drop at Comb 1 1/2” and Drop at Heel 2 3/8”. The 28’ Barrels per the Browning Choke Symbols are choked top - Full and bottom – Improved Cylinder.  The 26.5” barrels are choked top – Improved Cylinder and bottom – Cylinder.

The gun weighs approximately 6 lbs. 7 oz.  Also included with this gun is the original Hartman factory Browning case in excellent condition with minimal soiling of the faux fur lining.
