About Us: I am a custom gunmaker specializing in re-creating pre-World War I sporting rifles, crafted with precision and respect for tradition. Starting with quality rifles such as the Ruger No.1, Mauser, Winchester Model 70, Ruger M77, CZ, or BRNO, I transform them into sleek, slender hunting rifles inspired by the elegance of 1910 designs. I also craft the elegant Faeton Underhammer muzzleloading rifles and Model 1911 .45 Super Longslide pistols. Call me or visit my site, which is listed on some of the photos, for more information regarding my line of fine bespoke firearms. Also check out my Custom Services listing under GUNSMITHING.

Description:
EARLY 95 MAUSER SPORTING RIFLE

This early 1900s German Sporting Rifle is NOT a conversion of a military action. It started life as a 95 commercial action and wears a 23 1/2-inch octagon-to-round barrel with a full-length rib. It's chambred for 8x57 and has an EXCELLENT BORE with a groove diameter of .323-inch.

No maker name is apparent on the surfaces, but it is period-engraved on the receiver, floor plate, and trigger guard with simple and pleasing scrolls. The wood is solid and shows 100 years of handling marks that have been carefully preserved under a coat of True Oil. The metal, however, appears to wear all it's original blue but is thinning on some of the edges. There are a few small spots of surface rust which will come off when the surface of the rifle is cleaned (needed).  If I had to give a percentage of blue it would be 95%. It also wears the original serrated hard rubber buttplate with a heal spur.

The receiver has been drilled and tapped for a Redfield one-piece mount and the bolt has been modified to clear the scope.
The rifle handles like a dream (of course, it's German) and weighs a shade under 7 pounds.

All in all, it's a great shooter in a classic caliber with an excellent bore with the desirable .323" groove!
It is the quinticential German Sporting Rifle. Price is only $800 plus shipping/insurance.
