Description:
It has been many years since we had one of these sought-after and rare Marlins, and this one is as good as we have ever seen.  The Marlin Model 336SC (Sporting Carbine) chambered in .219 Zipper was only manufactured between 1955 and 1960, with only 3,230 total manufactured.  This beautiful factory blued lever-action carbine features a 20" inch long barrel with a 2/3rds length magazine tube that holds 5 rounds, and a pistol grip American Walnut stock with a black pistol grip cap and buttplate, each with a white spacer.  It has factory iron sights but the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for optics and a receiver-mounted peep sight, and the trigger came from the factory with a gold finish typical of Marlin lever actions.  As you can see in the pictures this particular Marlin 336SC is in superb all-original condition and appears to be unfired since leaving the factory.  This 336SC is serial number S21448, with the "S" being the date code for 1958-59 production.  The factory blue finish rates 97 to 98%, with the only deductions coming from some faint high edge wear at the muzzle and at the front of the magazine tube, some gold finish loss on the trigger, and some finish wear on the side of the hammer from metal to metal contact when the action is worked.  The remainder of the carbine looks like-new and shows no evidence of being used or carried.  The factory plug screws are still in place in the receiver and there are no signs of this carbine ever having a scope or peep sight mounted on it.  The front sight still has the factory hood in place, and the rear iron sight still has the elevator intact.  The internals are just as pristine as the exterior and show no wear.  The bore is in mint condition, it looks new with sharp rifling and no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The bolt looks pristine in this .219 Zipper caliber Marlin, the bolt face shows no primer marks and the sides of the bolt do not show any wear from being worked.  The bottom of the bolt is numbered to the gun with the complete serial number electropenciled on the flat at the rear.  The original American Walnut stock set is in beautiful condition.  You have to look extremely close to find even the smallest handling/storage mark on it.  Both the buttstock and forearm are free from cracks, repairs, or signs of wear.  The original finish on the wood is excellent.  The factory black plastic pistol grip cap and buttplate are in like-new condition.  The checkered Marlin-branded buttplate is perfectly fit and tight to the wood, as-is the pistol grip cap.  The factory white spacers between the stock and these parts are intact and have only slightly shrunk, correct for a Marlin of this vintage.  This stock has never been drilled or altered for sling swivel studs either, with the original Marlin black and white "bullseye" still in place.  Everything on this Marlin is 100% functional like the day it left the factory.  The action is smooth and precise and goes into battery perfectly.  The lever locks into position crisply and the trigger is quite good.  This Marlin 336SC in .219 Zipper is a spectacular example of this rare model and would be an excellent addition to any gun collection.  It is certainly a centerpiece-type weapon and would be nearly impossible to upgrade.  This is truly a collector-grade Marlin that should continue to appreciate for many years to come.
