Description:

ANTIQUE Winchester 1873 Lever Action Rifle 32 WCF

Third Model Made in 1888

Here we present an antique Winchester 1873 Third Model Lever Action Rifle, made in 1888 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1873 is one of the most iconic of American rifles. Given the moniker “The Gun that Won the West”, the 1873 was there during the Indian Wars and Range Wars of the late 19th century. Cowboys, Natives, settlers, miners, law enforcement, express companies and hunters all found these rifles and carbines useful tools. These rifles made excellent companions to revolvers at the time as they were chambered for the same ammunition, meaning that the user only had to keep one type to feed both guns. The 1873 really was the quintessential Western rifle, handily outpacing all the muzzle-loading and Civil War surplus guns that also made their way to the frontier.

This rifle features a 24-inch octagonal barrel. The front sight is a windage adjustable blade. The rear sight is an elevation adjustable buckhorn. It is chambered for .32 WCF, a nice smaller bore cartridge. Both the barrel and the bottom of the frame are marked with the caliber. The receiver tang is marked “MODEL 1873”. The barrel is marked “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CONN. USA/KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860”.

The overall condition is good. Metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is smooth and in very good condition, with a curiously placed outline of a moose on the right side of the butt stock. Magazine tube is a replacement. See photo. The bore is in good condition. The action is strong.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 24 inches in length.

Caliber: .32 WCF
