Description:
Used. This interesting heavy dragoon carbine came about because of complaints about the model 1770 heavy dragoon carbine's firelock ignition system. The model 1796 heavy dragoon carbine as it was known saw use during the Napoleonic Wars, especially the battle of Waterloo in 1815. Most of these heavy dragoon carbines were eventually sold as surplus to the Mexican government in the early-mid 1820's and used in the Mexican American War of 1846-48; some even saw service in the US Civil war with Southern milita units.
