RARE Pre-CIVIL WAR Antique MASSACHUSETTS Revolver
1 of Only 1000 Made, Wesson & Leavitt Patent Belt Gun
Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. Wesson & Leavitt Patent Percussion Belt Revolver, made circa 1851. This pistol was a direct competitor to Colt’s 1849 Pocket Revolver. It was uniquely designed with its diagonal percussion nipples, side-hammer, and hinged barrel with a latch. The frame is marked “WESSON’S & LEAVITT’S PATENT”. The top strap is marked “MASS ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS”. The frame is nicely scroll engraved. The backstrap and trigger guard are silver plated brass. The rest of the construction is iron.
This specimen is in good condition. The most obvious detraction is the missing hammer. The iron frame is dark with age. Markings are clear and legible. The engraving is sharp. Much of the old silver finish on the brass remains. The walnut grips show a bit of period use, but are solid. Bore is sharply rifled. The action is not functional. Here is a rare gun for your collection.
