Description:
This great condition double rifle was probably made by P. Webley and Sons around 1897 and  sold by Lyon and Lyon of London and Calcutta. The 28" steel fully rifled barrels might have had an old reblue and the bluing remains at about 98% and the barrel engraving is crisp, the rest of the rifle apears to be with the original finish. The barrels have a dolls head extension and excellent bores. Groove diameter .735 and twist is about 56".The sights are one 50 yd standing and a 100 yd and 150 yd flip ups. London proofed for 191 grains of powder. The rifle weighs 13 lb 1 oz and has 2 7/8 inch perfect chambers. The barrels weigh 7 lb 15.5oz. The original stock has a 14" pull over an original recoil pad (pad is hard and well aged). Wood to metal fit is excellent. Some minor bruising on the wood of the pistol hand shadow lined cheekpiece stock, checkering is well defined and wood is stout, lever forend in excellent condition. This underlever hammer double rifle with rebounding locks is as " on face" as when made, with perfect fitting of the dolls head, indicative of never being tightened up.. Locks operate perfectly and the rifle has about 90% original case colors. The real advantage to a 12 Bore double rifle is you can NEVER run out of cases! Plastic or paper or brass 12 gauge cases work fine. There are 10 brass cases included. (they were made by Rocky Mountain at 3" and were trimed to 2 7/8"). This rifle is extreemly powerful and has almost 4,000 foot pounds of energy with a 750 grain bullet! The screws are about 90%, only one under the left hammer shows any evidence of ever being turned! Heavy 12 Bore double rifles are rare proved for the 7 dram load and weighing over 13 pounds. The rifle comes in a period English leather case that is rare at a 2 1/2" depth. The case has been relined and has a replica Lyon and Lyon label. A period 12 Bore conical mold is included along with a period powder measure and wood cleaning rod. The case is in very good condition. Brass medallion on case engraved with a "W". Hard to find a double rifle in this condition, especially a 12 BORE proved for 7 drams and weighing over 13 pounds! i've owned a lot of English blackpowder double rifles from .360 Express to 8 Bore and this is one of the nicest I have owned!
