This is a rare Second Type, C.SHARPS Breech Loading Pistol . It is .36 caliber. 6.25" Round Barrel with an excellent bright well rifled bore! This example is marked on the right side of frame: "C. SHARPS & CO'S/RIFLE WORKS/PHILA. PA. and on the left side of frame :"C.SHARPS/PATENT/1848-52." Approx. 350 of this model were produced from 1854 to 1857. They were serial numbered from 470 to 950 approx. Metal shows strong traces of bright original blue finish in the protected areas,gray and brown patina on the balance, some light oxidation/pitting, and minor scratches. Markings are strong, and legible. Walnut grip panels are fine and have a glossy original finish,light handling marks and are numbered to the gun serial.#707. Serial number is also found near the toe and under grip panel in frame. Rounded front blade sight and groove rear sight. Action is strong and mechanically fine.
