GORGEOUS Cased J.B. Rongé Fils Matched DUELERS
Ornate, Engraved, Gold Inlay with Set Triggers
Here we present an antique matched pair of J.B. Rongé Fils A Liége Percussion Duellers, made circa 1855. The maker was Jean-Baptiste Rongé & Sons, prolific gunmakers for about a century in Liége, Belgium, making high quality percussion pistols, like these, as well as getting into revolvers in the late 19th Century. This pair would have been intended to be a status symbol, used for occasional recreation, and perhaps even defending one’s honor in gentlemanly duels in the 19th Century.
These high-quality, hand-crafted pistols come in a very nice custom case. Each pistol features delicate scroll engraving on the hammer, lock plate, trigger guard, pommel cap, and barrel tang. Each lock is marked “J.B. RONGÉ FILS A LIÉGE.” and gold inlaid. The walnut stock has nice grain, a fluted pistol grip, and a carved fore end. The barrel is 9-1/2 inches and octagonal, and is marked “ACIER FONDU”. Muzzles are crowned. Trigger is single set and is extremely light and crisp. The front sight is a windage adjustable blade, and the rear sight is relatively tall notch.
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 60% present. The markings are very clear. The stocks are fine and solid. The bores are clean and shiny, with sharp rifling. It is evident that these were not used extensively. The actions are crisp and strong.
